Cobbles and Clay, Haworth

Haworth has strong connections with the Bronté sisters. The Main Street is a sloping cobbled path in the centre, with four or five cafés/tea rooms for tourists on their "Wuthering Heights" pilgrimage. |
There's a fair bit of choice, but Cobbles and Clay stood out as the closest thing to a coffee house. It was also the least busy place on bustling Main Street, so the most likely contender for a leisurely mug.
In keeping with its name, the walls are spartan and pale. The rest of the room has well-placed splashes of colour, some in the form of sprigs of local heather (not original, but still welcome).

This place is a good antidote (editor's note: it took me about a year to notice that I had mistakenly written "anecdote" here) to the busy, quaint interiors of the tea rooms next door. These tea rooms are perhaps more typically "Yorkshire", but they are not the subject of this blog. Cobbles & Clay is the best option for coffee seekers.

The coffee is fair trade and excellent, the mugs are mis-matching (which I think is a good thing), and the service is friendly. Cakes are available and there is even a wine list. It's good to sit and watch the ambling tourists amble by; some of them stop occasionally and glance at the pottery-filled window-sill.
There is a pleasant patio down the stairs and out the back, which I imagine would be a good place to be on warm summer days.
