Hemingways, Skipton

Hemingways, Skipton Hemingways stretches the definition of a coffee house, but despite being tea-room-like it is still worthy of a mention.

Skipton is a market town on the southern tip of the Yorkshire Dales. Market forces here, and in the rest of North Yorkshire, seem to necessitate an abundance of traditional tea rooms at the expense of my kind of coffee house. Unfortunately, Hemingways isn't really an exception, but it's still a fairly good place for a mug of coffee.

The best bit was the live music, which came in the form of an octogenarian pianist (this is a guess; he could have been any age between 70 and 100). He played many favourites from times of yore with a finesse that belied his respectable age. The experience was improved by two elderley ladies behind me who chose to hum along to 'On The Street Where You Live' and various others. I think "quaint" is the word I'm looking for.

I found Hemingways while searching for a lunchtime cup of coffee; perhaps there are cosier places to go in Skipton at less busy times of day. Still, Hemingways is perfectly nice.

I hear there are better spots for a cosy coffee in Skipton. Do you know of any? Use the comments form below to let me know!
