Poppi Red, Hawkshead

Hawkshead is a stunning village and Poppi Red is the best option for relaxed coffee-sipping. Ideally, visit on sunny days, when you can sit on the terrace and watch passers-by pass by. |
There are nice old houses nearby, birds collecting from feeders and well-kept baskets of plants (so plenty of eye candy).

The place is small and the menu is simple: hot drinks, cakes and (more unusually) wine. The mis-matching mugs and plates are good fun, and the service is friendly. There's also a gift shop attached.

Problem is, it's expensive. £4.10 for cappuccino and scone! That's my café budget blown for the week. But it's the going rate for Hawkshead, which, while charming, is fairly exclusive village.

tombo i have thoroughly enjoyed this website. it makes me feel very relaxed and calm. in fact, rather like I'm sitting in a cosy cafe drinking a coffee. i really don't understand hard drugs and alcohol, when there are such wondrous simple pleasures in life as coffee drinking in cosy cafes. i think I'm going to visit this site when i'm stressed! it has a therapeutic effect. oh how i long for a coffee now.
